At a recent meeting at Royal North Shore Hospital, Dr. Paul Silberstein presented a Therapy for Parkinson's Disease Update to fellow Neurologists. He discussed all therapies available, from oral levodopa, to exericse, to deep brain stimulation.

He outlined tips to help people living with Parkinson's disease take their medications more regularly. Because taking multiple tablets a day is difficult! One of the first tips he provided was to use a watch that has regular alarms. As the watch is with you all the time (or most of the time), people are more likely to take medications when the alarm sounds.

Why does this matter?

Levodopa has been shown to have greater effect when it is taken regularly. This helps to minimise any windows of feeling "off" when the tablet is wearing off. It also helps with longer term accumulative effects.
